First breakfast
here at our little campus.
After that, the volunteers go
to the parks and principal intersections in the city center
to meet Street Children
who come in
from the barrios to sell sweets, shine shoes, wash cars,
beg
or steal.
The volunteers befriend them: invite them
to come eat with us for free.
At lunchtime we receive
the children invited in the morning
and introduce them to other volunteers, the social
worker, psychologist and if necessary to the doctor or
dentist
as well as to other children. Lunch with the other
volunteers, free time or a bit of play with children
who are not
in
school in the afternoon, then the volunteers teach
a one hour course in a familiar subject.
In
the
late
afternoon the volunteers work on development projects
either in the office or in the field. The day ends
with
the night meal, 6:00 PM, most of us teach language
courses (mostly to young adults) until 8:00 or 9:00 PM.
